Lares Machupicchu 4d/3N
This hike offers stunning views of mountains, glacial lakes and towns, abundant flora and fauna, pleasant camping and is a unique opportunity to see the local life, the fourth day, we achieve Machu Picchu treasure.
Starting near the village Lares, approximately 40 miles north of Cusco and 35 miles east of Machu Picchu. The Lares Valley lies in the east of the Urubamba mountain range, traversing part of the Sacred Valley. Reaching the start of the trek requires a bus or van trip of approximately 5 hours from the village of Lares. The Lares trek route transverses typical Peruvian Andean mountain areas.
The hike will take you through stunning scenery of mountain begining with a relaxing bath in the thermal waters of the lares which are medicinal, to continue on the overpasses, and will spend two nights near the traditional villages of the Peru where you will experience the interaction with local communities and see their way of life. At the end of our trip we will have the pleasure to see the wonder of the world: Machu Picchu!
Day by day itinerary
Day 1: Cusco to Lares Town & Trek to Wakawasi (3, 850m)
Early in the morning collect you from your respective hotel at 6:00 in the morning and we will travel by private bus to Lares village (2, 900 masl). In this place you can enjoy medicinal thermal baths (enter tickets are not included) before starting the 6 hours walk. We will begin our ascent in zigzag to the village of Wakawasi (3, 850 masl) with views of the glaciers, wildlife and local communities. Our camp at the Wakawasi community will give us the opportunity to get to know local families living in harmony with nature.
Day 2: Huacawasi – Sóndor – step Sacsayllame – Aruray Cocha – Yurak Cocha – Miski Unu
Early in the morning we will appreciate children on their way to school. After a nutritive breakfast we will begin the walking to the highest point for 4 hours to the pass of Sacsayllame in 4400masl or 14435 feet. During this hike you can see huge mountains and breathtaking views of agricultural lands. Please note that we will reach great heights and the weather can be very cold. After reaching the highest point we will descend and see a beautiful lagoon and then we are going to walk at the side of the River, you can enjoy the landscape while our chefs prepare a delicious lunch for you. Continuing we are going to descend even more through the forest where you can see the typical “queuña” trees from the Peruvian andes. This tour will take you approximately 1 hour before reaching our camp at Miski Unu (3550 m / 11646f). A wonderful location in the middle of nowhere where you will receive a hot tea and some snacks upon arrival before dinner.
Day 3: Miski Unu – Queshuarchalloc – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
Today will be another spectacular day of walking downhill across different forests. You can enjoy the richness of the biodiversity of flora and fauna during this 3-hour that end in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will enjoy our last lunch in Queshuarchalloc where we will say goodbye to the riders and chefs. After lunch we will take our private transportation to the town of Ollantaytambo, where we are going to have a tour in the archaeological site after the tour we go to the station to board the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu village) we will spend the night in a hostel or hotel of your choice.
Day 4: Explore Machu Picchu and return to Cuzco
This day we will wake up very early and after breakfast, we board the first bus 5:30 AM, we will make a journey of 30 minutes arriving at the Citadel of Machu picchu at 6:00 AM and appreciate the majestic sunrise. We will have a guided tour of 2 hours to get to know the most important sites of Machu Picchu, if you want you can climb Wayna Picchu *(enter ticket is no inluded).
Finishing the guiding you have free time, 04 more hours, to walk around by yourself. You can get to the town of Aguas Calientes where you can visit the thermal baths (enter ticket is not included), after lunch in a restaurant (not included) take the train back to Ollantaytambo station where the transfer is going to wait for you to return to Cusco in a private transportation to your hotel.
* WaynaPicchu, an optional hike up to the steep peak called HuaynaPicchu, located inside the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. The trek lasts about 45 – 60 minutes upwards and we will appreciate a unique and unforgettable view of Machu Picchu from a fantastic perspective. Please note that, if you want to take this optional tour, you must contact at least 1 month in advance to reserve your entrance ticket.
